Descripción
| This work is part of the research project «The image of the National Institute of Industry in the territory: Cartography and landscape of industry» funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities 2019-2022 (Ref. PGC2018-095261-B-C22). The research project was focused on analysing the architectural and landscape dimension of the industrial infrastructure developed by the Spanish National Institute of Industry during the dictatorship, and exploring them as industrial heritage. As part of this research, the governmental promotion of the electricity sector, and in particular, the construction of combustion power stations, was analysed. This database was elaborated in the framework of a study-case focused on the conservation of fossil fuel power stations (FFPSs). Although this study was focused mainly on Spain, it broadens a comparative analysis with neighbouring countries given that electrification is a global, technical, and historical milestone, and decarbonisation processes are common phenomena in industrialised economies of Western countries. Notas
| The database contains the WGS84 coordinates of 1305 thermal power stations built in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Gibraltar, Malta, Monaco and Vatican City between 1882 and 2020. Data are classified by type of facility and current status. It is indicated whether the installation is registered in administrative heritage inventories or if they are under cultural protection. The facilities linked to companies of the National Institute of Industry are noted. Sites listed in the "Global Power Plant Database" are specified.
