Description
| This dataset contains the raw and processed data used to validate a method for estimating the wrist path radius in hammer throwing using a single wrist-mounted inertial measurement unit (Movella DOT) against a VICON optical motion capture system. Data correspond to five throws performed by one experienced male hammer thrower. The dataset includes: (1) IMU data from two Movella DOT sensors (left wrist and right foot) sampled at 120 Hz (Euler angles, tri-axial accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer); (2) VICON motion capture data at 120 Hz with 15 body markers and model outputs (joint angles, angular velocities, marker 3D coordinates); and (3) MATLAB .mat files containing the computed wrist path radii using four VICON-based methods (geometric, kinematic, Lee, and centroid-based) and the IMU-based radius estimate. Event timing data for turn segmentation are also included. (2026-05-29) |

| Data associated with the manuscript "Estimation of the wrist path radius in hammer throwing using a wrist-mounted inertial measurement unit: Validation against optical motion capture", submitted to the Journal of Sports Biomechanics. IMU data were collected using two Movella DOT sensors (firmware 3.0.0, app version 2023.6.0) at 120 Hz. VICON data were exported from Nexus at 120 Hz with 15 body markers. The StartTime timestamp was removed from IMU files to preserve participant privacy. MATLAB .mat files contain the computed wrist path radii (geometric, kinematic, Lee, and centroid-based methods from VICON, and accelerometry-based radius from IMU) along with event timing data for turn segmentation. |
